Molly Roger Rollergirls

MRRG Appearance on Brighthouse Ch 49 – Brevard Notes

Written By David Wreckham

Sure we’ve all seen the Molly Roger Rollergirls in action; all leapt from our seats after our captain, MadNess, delivers a devastating blow that prevents an opposing jammer from cutting through the pack; all been left with our voices hoarse the following morning after screaming on Hex Files as she racks up the points in a power jam but have we ever really stopped to think about what it took for our ladies to get here?

In professional sports it’s easy to tell where the money comes from, soda companies and beer vendors plaster their logos anywhere they think a person might glance.  It’s simple to know how one got involved in the sport as almost all of the stories are the same as you find the athletes have been playing the sport for nearly longer than they can remember, often enrolled in an after school league by a parent and then playing throughout grade school and college.  The fan base is grown through advertising, and plenty of it.

However, with roller derby, for the Molly Roger’s, it’s not so black and white.  This week Julie Black N Deck-Her, Kellasaurus, and Schrodinger’s Cat sit down with Brevard Notes’ Joe Crews to discuss everything from when and where the Molly Roger’s practice to why and how these ladies got involved in the sport of roller derby.

The interview can be seen on Brighthouse Network channel 49 on June 17th at 7:30pm, June 19th at 7:00pm, and June 21st at 6:00pm.
